Niagara College has developed an online resource to help “launch” students into their studies with confidence. LauNCh: Getting Started at NC is an introductory guide that provides new students with core information and resources to help set them up for success as they begin their educational journeys at NC.

The start-up resource, which is a collective effort between several college areas including the Centre for Academic Excellence, International, Enrolment Services, and Student Services, highlights the many support services available to students, and provides tips about how to initialize and use the college’s online tools and learning platforms.

The guide is organized into the following four sections:

  • Introduction to Learning at NC;
  • Blackboard Basics;
  • Strategies and Supports for Student Success; and
  • Strategies and Supports for Personal Wellness.

In each section, students will find step-by-step instructions, helpful tips, videos, links and resources to help equip them with the basic information needed to feel confident and supported as they embark on their studies, especially in an online learning environment.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to share the guide with incoming students, as well as with current students looking for information all in one place.

Click here to access the guide, which is available as an open educational resource (OER) via Open Library Pressbooks.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the project including the ncLibraries OER team, Jaclyn Chambers Page and Siscoe Boschman, who provided technical support in ensuring the guide was available to students in a user friendly, online format.
