The Christmas spirit blossomed throughout Niagara thanks to the Niagara College Teaching Greenhouse.
Staff at the greenhouse donated nearly 400 poinsettias and more than 45 kilograms of tomatoes to local social organizations, including Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold, the YWCA and Beamsville District Secondary School, which uses the tomatoes in its culinary program and in student raffles.
Women’s Place, Millennium Trail Manor, Welland Heritage Council, and the Niagara Regional Native Centre also received poinsettias grown by second-year greenhouse technician and horticulture technician students.
The NC greenhouse donates the festive flowers and produce to local organizations each holiday season, with more going out in the days leading up to the holidays.
Some poinsettias are still available for sale online for curbside pickup, too.
