In this TVO.org news article about cybersecurity, Justin Chandler draws on the knowledge of technology experts including NC’s chief technology officer John Levay.

With October being Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the article mentions that NC students and staff are receiving tips throughout the month on how to stay safe online and Levay notes that the ITS team will also be test-phishing staff during the campaign.

With students and staff learning or working from home with their own devices, Levay also mentions that institutions can help keep their users safe through the use of virtual private networks and remote desktop protocol (which allow users to access computers remotely). He notes: “We can’t really protect their devices on their end, but we can try to protect them if they are connected to us, as well as provide them with at least as much guidance as we possibly can around staying cyber-safe — and that is pretty difficult to do.”
