Put safety first this Thanksgiving

Ontario Minister of Health Christine Elliott tweets on October 8 that the safest way to celebrate is with those in your household.

As we look ahead to the Thanksgiving weekend, it’s important to keep safety in mind with COVID-19 cases continuing to rise in Ontario and beyond. It is more important than ever to follow all government and public health directives related to preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Our College community shares a heightened responsibility to not only to protect ourselves, but to protect one another – including our families, friends, roommates, our College and our communities.

The provincial government recommends that Thanksgiving gatherings be limited to households – and suggests that any celebrations outside of households – with family and friends – be held virtually.

We ask our college community to follow the guidance of public health and carefully consider their options when making their Thanksgiving and midterm break plans.

If you do decide to go home for the holiday or midterm break, remember that anyone leaving the country must quarantine for 14 days when they return to Canada. While there are no additional formal restrictions for travel within Canada or Ontario, it is important to monitor the advice and guidance of Public Health officials.

Whatever you decide to do, please continue to follow the important infection prevention and control safety measures:

  • Wear a mask in all public spaces;
  • Keep at least two meters apart from others;
  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands often;
  • Stay home when you are sick; and
  • Follow government and public health guidelines regarding gatherings.

Our safe return to campus this fall proved what our College community can accomplish when we step up to the challenges before us. Now, as we move into the second wave this fall, we continue to count on one another to follow all safety measures needed during this most critical time.

Remember, we are all in this #NCTogether.
