A message from Katerina Gonzalez, director, Planning & Institutional Research (PaIR):
It is with personal regret but warm wishes that I announce the retirement of Duncan MacDuff on June 30, 2020 after 37 years with Niagara College. Duncan has been a highly respected member of the Planning and Institutional Research team over the past eight years, and he will be greatly missed by colleagues and students alike.

Duncan MacDuff retires from NC on June 30, 2020
Much of Duncan’s work at the College has focused on providing applied research and facilitative services to enhance institutional effectiveness and student success. Duncan first came to NC in 1983 as an instructor in the Academic Studies division and later moved to the Continuing Education department, where he spent two years as a development officer. He continued his career at NC as a consultant in the Ventures Centre for 11 years and as a research facilitator in Workforce and Business Development for 14 years.
In 2012, Duncan became research facilitator for PaIR, where he has supported NC in interpreting data to assist in planning academic courses and improving the student experience. While working in PaIR, he co-created new program dashboards consisting of twelve key metrics that span the student life cycle – from recruitment to graduation – and include five-year applicant and enrolment trends, employer demand, and student and graduate satisfaction and outcome trends.
Duncan has an Honours Bachelor of Sociology degree from Brock University, as well as a Master of Arts in Sociology from the University of Guelph. He has authored numerous research reports, publications and guides, and contributed to the community and beyond through his work with the Niagara Workforce Planning Board, Niagara Connects, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, the Sectoral Skills Council, Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress, Ministerial Advisory Committee on Plastics, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, General Motors of Canada, and Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) among others.
The College has benefitted greatly from Duncan’s expertise and I would like to thank him for his valuable contributions over the years. Duncan, you exemplify all that is meant by NC DNA and it has been incredibly rewarding and intellectually stimulating (as well as a lot of fun) working with you over the past eight years. While it is hard to see you leave, we are also excited for the next chapter in your life. As an upcoming NC retiree, you will always be part of the Niagara College family. Please join me in wishing Duncan a well-deserved and enjoyable retirement.
