NC Libraries and Learning Commons: New and improved Academic Drop-In service available to students online

NC Libraries and Learning Commons has reinvented its popular Academic Drop In (ADI) sessions to offer an improved version of the service online to Niagara College students.

The service gives students an opportunity to get help from ADI facilitators for support in Math, Science, Writing, COMM and ESL. Facilitators help students engage with course material and can:

  • Help reinforce understanding of concepts taught in class;
  • Clarify problems similar to those on graded assignments;
  • Review a writing sample to help students identify grammar or structural weaknesses;
  • Support students in understanding the requirements of an assignment; and
  • Determine the best approach to successfully complete their assignments.

Facilitator profiles have been added to the website to provide students with more information about each individual staff member – profiles include a picture, brief bio, scheduled hours and a chat link.

ADI sessions are available this term until August 7 for all subject areas, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students can “drop in” to chat online as often as they need using the chat feature on the Academic Drop Ins page on the NC Libraries and Learning Commons website. Alternatively, students can book an appointment to connect with an ADI facilitator through Microsoft Teams for enhanced support.

Relevant resources have also been added to the math and writing ADI pages and include helpful tips, common questions, and videos for BA II Plus calculator equations. NC Libraries and Learning Commons will continue adding helpful resources to these pages, as well as to its Science and ESL pages.

Faculty are encouraged to refer students who may benefit from the service.
