YourTV: NC’s Phil Hayes speaks with Mike Balsom about Virtual Spring Open House for new students

An online initiative for future students – NC’s Virtual Spring Open House – made Niagara’s local news on April 20. YourTV’s Mike Balsom interviewed NC’s associate director, Student Recruitment, Phil Hayes, about the newly launched virtual offering.

Hayes explains that the annual Spring Open House is an event that the entire College rallies behind, attracting future students from Niagara, the GTA, across Ontario and internationally to explore our campuses, programs, and meet staff, faculty and current students. This year, the March event was cancelled due to COVID-19 and the College mobilized to offer the experience online.

The coverage features clips from the virtual tour, offering 360 views of the campuses guided by a virtual guide. Hayes explains that the Virtual Open House also includes a live chat option with NC’s recruitment chat six days each week for students to connect at a convenient time. Hayes highlights the accessibility of the online tour experience, particularly for international students.

Balsom notes that the virtual tour allows those who may be attending the Welland or Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake to explore the other campus virtually, if they’re unable to do so in person.
