Niagara College is getting a head start on Earth Day this year, with a roster of activities planned to usher in the month of April.
Hosted by the Office of Sustainability, ‘Earth Week’ will be held at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus from March 30 to April 3.
Sustainability program and outreach coordinator Amber Schmucker noted that Earth Day and Earth Month are great tools for bringing awareness to environmental and climate change issues, as well as a platform for demonstrating the ways that people can get involved. That’s why the Office of Sustainability wanted to evolve its bioblitz program into an NC Earth Week celebration this year, she said.
“As climate change issues become more visible in the news and people continue to experience its impacts firsthand, it is important that we celebrate the good and empower our students to take action where they can,” said Schmucker. “NC Earth Week will provide opportunities for students and staff to learn more about the wildlife and natural areas on campus, while inspiring positive action in our community through the series of workshops taking place March 30 to April 3.”
Mark your calendar for these Earth Week workshops:
- March 30 – Aquatic Monitoring Workshop (noon to 2 p.m.);
- March 31 – Tick Talk & Bug ID Seminar (12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.);
- April 1 – NCTalks Native vs. Invasive Species, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.);
- April 2 – Become a Bird Nerd – Bird ID Workshop ( noon to 2 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.);
- April 3 – Animal Tracks Adventure Walk (4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and
- April 4 – NC Bioblitz, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
