Niagara College’s Young Women’s Career Exploration Conference on March 4 was part of YourTV Niagara’s news coverage for the Niagara Catholic District School Board’s 17th annual Technological Skills Competition, held at the Scotiabank Convention Centre.
Sarah Rouillier, professor in Advance Manufacturing in NC’s School of Technology, and Gina Grossi, professor in Game Development in NC’s School of Media, shared the importance of giving young women the opportunity to explore the skilled trades and technology, fields that have been traditionally male-dominated.
Rouillier explains that employers are eager to hire skilled women in the trades, many of whom bring a unique and in-demand skill set to the field. Grossi explains that the Game Development industry is highly lucrative for women and growing rapidly because of the prevalence of mobile apps. The segment includes clips of a variety of NC-led demonstrations for the over 200 female participants in the Young Women’s Career Exploration Conference.
