Niagara College was in the news for a new program promoting emotional and social well-being among students, staff and faculty. Sarah Fergusen, reporter with Niagara This Week, covered Mood Walks at the Welland Campus.

Held rain or shine every Wednesday, the 50-minute walk is part of an Ontario-wide initiative led by the Canadian Mental Health Association to improve physical and mental health and encourage physical activity.

Carolina Rey Nassar who coordinates NC’s Therapeutic Recreation Activity Centre (NC TRAC) explains that this is one of the activities the college has to help promote well-being. Other activities include guided meditation and creative arts.

NC TRAC is a community space that students visit regularly, making friendships and fostering connection. It’s also a place for experiential learning. Students in NC’s Recreation Therapy program get valuable experience working with staff to facilitate programming.
