Students from NC’s Fitness and Health Promotion program are ready to help 100 people achieve their fitness goals in 2020.

As part of a Personal Training course curriculum, second-year students will offer personal fitness education and counseling, pre- and post-fitness evaluations, as well as weekly exercise prescription and supervision to selected clients during the winter term (approximate value of $700).

Program professor Michael Hart noted that the program presents an unparalleled opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills, working with a wide range of clients. There will be about 50 students involved with personal training.

“This program is instrumental in preparing our students for various careers in the fitness and health industry. Students are trained to meet national-level industry certification standards,” said Hart. “Participants also benefit, receiving individualized fitness assessments, training plans, weekly training sessions, and personal guidance for the duration of the 10-week program.”

The Personal Training is open to college employees and students, as well as local residents regardless of current fitness status, exercise goals, or previous participation in the program.

Applicants must be willing to commit to fitness assessments and weekly personal training sessions at the Welland Campus from February to April , and must meet specific participation requirements.
