Kris Dubé with The Welland Tribune covered news from the community celebration for outgoing NC President Dan Patterson. At the gala, the college’s board of governors announced that the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus would be proclaimed the Daniel J. Patterson Campus.

Patterson says of the honour, “It really was the highlight of my career — to see the outpouring of affection, recognition and celebration of my leadership.” He will conclude his tenure in 2020, and the community celebration honoured Patterson’s contributions and legacy over his 25-year tenure at NC.

Dubé notes some of the College’s recent successes, including being named the number one research college in Canada in Research Infosource Inc.’s Top 50 Research Colleges report.

The piece also highlights Patterson’s commitment to supporting Indigenous people throughout his career, beginning with his time before NC when he and wife Saundra worked in Indigenous affairs for the government.

Patterson is pictured at Friday’s gathering in St. Catharines in which Mayor Walter Sendzik presented Patterson with a key to the city. Sendzik said, “Dan has been a passionate and energetic champion of Niagara. Through his infectious energy and passion, Dan has inspired generations of students, entrepreneurs and local leaders to pursue their dreams.”
