Niagara College’s Centre for Organizational Excellence (COE) is committed to equipping NC employees with the basic tools to effectively intervene and support students, co-workers and members of the community who are experiencing mental health issues.
Traditionally, COE’s Mental Health First Aid Certification course has been conducted over 2 days during break week however, due to popular request, the course will now offered in four three-hour sessions.
Using a modular approach, participants will meet each Friday morning, for the month of February, beginning February 7 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room W212 at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.
This course is open to all full-time and part-time Niagara College employees. There is no cost to participate. Please confirm your participation with your manager, prior to registering.
To date, over 200 NC employees have completed this important, and potentially life-saving training. Facilitated by counsellor Jennifer Babin, college nurse and Christine Philbrick the Mental Health First Aid Certification Program will:
- Improve your understanding of mental illness
- Minimize the fear and hesitation to become involved if you think someone is experiencing a mental health problem
- Develop simple and effective intervention strategies that are relevant to your role at the college
Please note you must attend all 4 sessions: February 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 9:30am to 12:30pm
