Niagara College staff and faculty kicked off the Fall 2019 term with an opportunity to become more world-ready.
Regional in-country representatives from Vietnam, June (Nguyen) Le, and Mongolia, Bella (Ulemj) Bat, visited NC to assist with the start of term, hosting two cultural information sessions while at the College. Staff and faculty at both campuses were invited to attend to learn more about NC’s Vietnamese and Mongolian students.
“I appreciated understanding the different secondary school systems and found it useful to have a context for the educational background of our students,” said Human Resources associate director, Julie Stitt.
As NC continues to attract students from around the world, it’s important that the College community has an opportunity to learn about where NC students come from and the context of educational experiences in those countries. NC’s International Culture Series aims to support this goal and is part the College’s ongoing strategy to provide greater awareness for our staff and faculty to best support academic and transitional success for our internationally trained students.

School of Business and Management Studies professor Malcom Howe said, “At Niagara College we have an incredibly multi-cultural student body. As a professor in Marketing, I find it invaluable to have these differing realms of experience in my classes. I also see it as critical that faculty understand our students and their backgrounds so that we can engage them more effectively. The sessions did a great job towards that end.”
The International Culture Series focuses on three key themes: cultural norms, education systems, and communication norms and techniques.
This ongoing series will feature sessions open to all staff and faculty to attend at the start of each term as well as additional sessions during the academic year.
