Bernd Franke reporting for The St. Catharines Standard wrote about the success of five NC players who earned all-star honours in women’s soccer at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women’s soccer championship.
- Midfielder Julieanne Buist was named West Division rookie of the year;
- Buist and teammates Taylor Major and Katelyn Mix were selected to the West Division;
- Terin Hultink and Ceilidh Richardson were named to the first all-star team;
- Rob Lalama was honoured with the OCAA West Region Coach of the Year award.
The honours were presented and the all-stars introduced at the championship awards banquet at Redeemer College who hosted the tournament.
Lalama, who has coached at NC since 2016, took over the women’s program from Frank DeChellis in 2016, guiding them to great success in the region. Associate director, Athletics and Recreation, Michele O’Keefe is quoted, saying:
“Rob Lalama is the type of coach who is 100 percent committed to his athletes, his team and Niagara College. Being named the OCAA West coach of the year is a wonderful feather in his cap and a testament to the work that Rob is doing.”
Lalama is NC’s second women’s soccer coach to receive the award.
