NC students to get world-ready on International Field Study trips this October

More than 150 Niagara College students, staff and faculty will partake in a Be World Ready (BWR) program’s International Field Studies (IFS) trips this term.

The Fall term is often associated with new adventures, and 2019 BWR Fall IFS trips will provide just that as the College is offering five different international learning experiences.

Amsterdam, Netherlands: School of Community Services

Geared towards students studying in the School of Community Services, an IFS trip will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, October 20 to October 26, and involve 41 NC students. Youth and aging in the Netherlands will be highlighted in addition to social care and mental health. Students will learn from the many innovative techniques being used for treatment in the Netherlands including the Snoezelen Room where students will learn about the use of Multi-Sensory environments. This trip will also include a visit to the Anne Frank House and a day in Hogeweyk Dementia Village.

Florida, U.S.A:  School of Hospitality, Tourism and Sport

Since 2014, over 100 students have participated in a highly sought-after BWR IFS trip to Disney. This year’s trip will invite students from the School of Hospitality and Tourism to learn from industry professionals about teamwork, hospitality, leadership style, and experience Disney’s culture of excellence through daily workshops. This trip taking place September 29 to October 3 will engage 20 students.

Germany – School of Technology

From physics and chemistry to cars and consumer products, Germany is a world leader in innovation, engineering, IT and manufacturing. From October 19 to 26, this IFS trip will see 39 NC students experience why this country is known as a powerhouse of research and innovation. Tours of BMW, Mercedes Benz, Bremen Technology Park, Volkswagen and other iconic landmarks in Germany are just some of the many activities students are looking forward to. Another notable highlight on the trip will be a visit to Feldheim – the first city in the world to be powered entirely by renewable energy.

New York City, U.S.A – Open College Wide

Thirty-three NC students across various schools of study will travel to New York City from October 21 to 26. Students will have the chance to become further culturally engaged by visiting iconic locations such as Times Square, the Empire State Building and Chelsea Market, and explore some of the many world-renowned museums NYC has to offer, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Chicago, U.S.A – Open College Wide

From October 22 to 26, NC’s IFS trip to Chicago will showcase many architectural wonders and culinary delights. Thirty-one NC students will participate in this trip that will include visiting ionic locations such as the Art Institute Chicago, Millennium Park, “The Bean,” Field Museum, Navy Pier and the 360 Chicago Observation Deck.
