The Niagara Dailies reported on a new wine variety: Red Tractor from Creekside Estate Winery in Jordan Station where NC alumna Yvonne Irvine (Wine and Viticulture Technician program, 2008) is at the helm.

Irvine was tasked with making “robust reds from Niagara that were approachable” and affordable. Irvine was intent on featuring the high-quality, local grapes to Creekside customers. Though her first venture wasn’t the success she hoped for, Irvine explains that their second attempt hit all the marks for a good bottle of red: “Low residual sugar, lower alcohol at 13 per cent, and it boasts lots of flavours all at a reasonable price point.”

Irvine explains that she was intent to work at Creekside when she was a student. She took a risk on her top choice and only applied to work at one winery – Creekside – for her NC co-op placement. The risk paid off. “They offered me a full-time job, so I’ve been here for 12 years now.” Irvine explains that she fit in well with the down to earth culture at Creekside.

Irvine asserts that wine should be unpretentious and tells people to “drink what you love.”
