On Sunday, September 8, over 40 NC staff and faculty mounted their bikes and pedaled in blue for the Niagara Big Move Cancer Ride, making history as the largest team in the ride’s 11-year history.
For their first year as a team, NC rode into the top 10 fundraisers, raising over $8,500 for the Walker Family Cancer Centre in St. Catharines. Donations will be accepted until October 31.

“Niagara College was a huge success at the Big Move Ride this year,” said team organizer Janet Pizzatti, manager, Student Financials. ‘We received a lot of praise from the announcers for the size of our team and our NC spirit. Plus our NC cycling jerseys – designed by the Marketing team – were a huge hit.”
The Student Recruitment team was on site with a branded van and tent as a show of a support for the event and as a rallying point for NC riders. “A special thanks to Phil and the Recruitment team. The NC van and tent looked wonderful and really gave NC a presence at the event,” said Pizzatti.
“We’re grateful for the support and endorsement of this event from senior leadership at Niagara College, which was key to our success,” said Joanne Maltby, team captain, and NC regional manager, South Asia.
“I think everyone had a lot of fun, the group really came together, on the road and at the venue,” said team organizer Mike Pasquale, manager, Strategic Procurement. “I’m proud to say I was on Niagara College’s first Big Move Cancer Ride team.”
More than 500 cyclists took part in the annual event, exceeding Niagara Health’s fundraising goal of $300,000 by almost $28,000 and counting. Funds support the ability for cancer patients in Niagara to receive local treatment including radiation.
