As we prepare to kick off a new academic year, we invite all staff and faculty to join us at Niagara Day 2019!
A true Niagara College tradition, this event is our annual opportunity to re-connect with colleagues, celebrate our achievements, and recognize employees for incredible work and contributions over the past year.
Held in the Welland campus Gym, the doors to the event will open at 10:00 am for refreshments and networking. At 10:30 am, the program will commence with greetings and key messages from members of our College community. The agenda for the morning will include highly anticipated award presentations, such as Awards of Excellence, Service Awards, Niagara Champion Award and College Educator Development Program certificates. Employees will hear inspiring personal stories about our NC DNA and get a glimpse of new videos capturing significant College accomplishments and developments over this past year. The program will also highlight our commitment to corporate giving through the launch of the 2019 United Way campaign, co-chaired by Carolyn Triemstra (Dean of Community and Health Studies) and Michele O’Keefe (Associate Director, Athletics & Recreation).
The event will conclude with a delicious lunch from Benchmark in the Learning Commons. With the College’s sustainability goals in mind, food service products at the event will be compostable and employees are encouraged to bring their refillable beverage containers for coffee and water. Those who are travelling to Welland campus from Niagara-on-the-Lake campus for the event are encouraged to explore carpooling options. Employees who require a special meal or menu modification due to food allergies, medical or religious reasons are asked to please contact Carly Sutherland, Employee Engagement & Events Coordinator, by 12pm on Thursday, August 22.
On arrival at the event, employees are encouraged to visit the booths in the Athletic Hallway, hosted by staff and faculty from various areas of the College. Stop by the SAC table to donate your spare loonies and toonies to the Nourishing Minds program; pick up your employee parking pass from the Parking table; visit our Sustainability team to donate an unused mug for an upcoming reusable mug program; purchase merchandise featuring the newly re-branded Knights logo at the Athletics pop-up store; make a donation to the United Way for a chance to win a prize; learn more about our College’s new partnership with the World University Service of Canada, which will support the re-settlement to Canada and education of our first student refugee, joining the School of Trades this fall.
We also encourage all employees to visit the foyer in the Athletic Centre (across from The Shack) prior to the start of the program to participate in a unique and memorable part of this year’s event! This Niagara Day, we will be collecting short video messages for our President, Dan Patterson, in celebration of his tenure here at Niagara College. This will be the first of a few opportunities to record a message for Dan, with more to come later this year.
We are looking forward to a fantastic event – hope to see you there!
