Between August 14 and September 5, representatives from Pinchin Ltd., a leading environmental, engineering and health-and-safety firm, will conduct a required annual asbestos reassessment at the Welland Campus.

Annual reassessments are part of the College’s ongoing asbestos inventory and management plan. This will primarily be a visual inspection, with some additional testing as required. The reassessments will confirm the stability of asbestos-containing material in the older buildings of the Welland Campus. Unless they are disturbed or handled improperly, these materials do not pose any health risks to students and staff. If any changes are noted in the reassessment, the material will be removed before it poses a hazard.

The reassessment and possible testing is scheduled to take place as follows:

Wednesday, Aug. 14: Lundy

Thursday, Aug. 15 – Friday, Aug. 16: Voyageur

Friday, Aug. 23: Secord

Tuesday, Sept. 3: Simcoe

Wednesday, Sept. 4: Merritt

Thursday Sept. 5: Mackenzie, Black Walnut and service tunnels

Please note that reassessment and/or testing does not pose any risks to the health and safety of staff and students, and will be carried out within the guidelines and requirements pertaining to handling asbestos-containing materials. The College also conducts asbestos awareness training for departments that work near asbestos-containing materials as part of their duties.

Anyone with questions regarding the reassessment may contact Ralph Scholz, director, Facilities Management Services, at [email protected].
