A message from Ralph Scholz, director, Facilities Management Services:
I’d like to take a moment to introduce two new additions to the FMS team, who have joined us following Tom Mussari’s move to his new position as Facilities Operation Manager at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.
Nicholas Yamich
This June, Nicholas Yamich began in his role of manager of projects and planning. Nicholas will be taking a leadership role in our FMS projects and planning department working closely with Bart Lanni and Tanera DeBeau. Many of you have met Nicholas already as he is being immersed in the scoping, design and implementation of our many college projects.
Nicholas is a licenced Architect and Niagara Falls native. He holds a Bachelor of Architectural Services from Ryerson University and a Master of Architecture from the University of Buffalo. He was previously employed at Quartek Group, starting as a coop student and taking on progressively more senior roles to his last position as architect. In this role he managed over $81 million in medium- and large-scale projects from the early schematic phase, to design, and then construction. His experience and skill will be a very good fit at the College as we navigate the future capital projects resulting from our campus master planning process.
Brian Hughes
Also in June, Brian Hughes joined Niagara College as project manager and contract administrator. Brian is a professional civil engineer with a wealth of experience and has held several senior leadership roles over many years in the public sector. One such role was the Director of Facilities and Properties at the Niagara Region. We will be tapping into Brian’s knowledge of asset management, engineering design, contracts, administration, and real estate management to assist the College navigate some of the issues we are facing.
Brian’s immediate task will be to oversee the ongoing construction projects at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus this summer. He will be the main College contact assisting the project teams and coordinating the activities among the various contractors, stakeholders and general Niagara College community.
He is available to answer questions about these projects and will be reaching out to various stakeholders on campus to inform them of the construction activities.
Brian will also be responsible for the real estate portfolio at the college. In addition to the various leases and agreements the College currently holds, Brian will be managing the property and facilities management requirements of the newly-acquired Niagara Corporate Business Centre adjacent to the NOTL campus.
