Niagara Now reported on Wayne Gretzky’s visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake for the launch of a new beer garden at Wayne Gretzky Estate Winery.
The visit included a toast with pints of the Estates first craft beer, No. 99 Rye Lager, a crisp, refreshing brew with a hint of rye and a little help from Niagara College.
NC’s Teaching Brewery was the site in which master distiller and brewer Joshua Beach tested his brew. After crafting his recipe, he approached NC’s Jon Downing, in attendance at the launch event, about using NC’s facilities. Downing is pictured with Wayne Gretzky himself.
“It was a great honour to be invited and involved in this project,” said Downing. “It is a great idea for the students because they can work on a real-world project and see the results at the end. They had fun working on how to develop a beer, how it comes into existence.”
