London Free Press: Getting Schooled on Cannabis

In this June 7 article in The London Free Press, “Boom times here in Canada’s cannabis belt,” which details the expanding cannabis industry in south-western Ontario and the career opportunities in the field.

Niagara College’s Commercial Cannabis Production (CCP) program is highlighted in the article as Canada’s only post-secondary institution where students can grow cannabis on campus. CCP students also intern one day each week at pot producer in the Niagara region, preparing them with hands-on training to embark on careers in this growing industry.

Bill MacDonald explains that the CCP program was developed in response to licensed producers expressing a need for trained growers. Many of the students have science degrees or come from Niagara’s greenhouse and horticulture program. MacDonald asserts that they’re striving for the CCP program to “be the gold standard.”
