CKTB: Special Edition Roundtable with President Dan Patterson

Host Tim Denis of Newstalk 610 CKTB spoke with Niagara College President Dan Patterson on-air on June 4. Patterson discusses his decision to conclude his tenure as president at the end of his contract in June 2020. He also reflects on the growth of the College which has tripled in size during his presidency. Patterson has led NC through a tremendous journey of change over his 25-year tenure, both in the local community and as a college with a global reach.

Patterson reflects on his first year as Niagara College president in 1995 amid governmental changes. He describes how NC has overcome significant challenges to become a preemptive college with innovative programs which continue to anticipate labour markets. Patterson cites the synergy of the NC team and their vision for the future for contributing to the College’s success.

Patterson speaks on his commitment to engagement at all levels. He speaks about engaging students in innovative ways and embracing digital learners. He cites NC’s commitment to engaging employers to help build and refine our programs. Finally, he credits a high-level of engagement among NC staff and faculty, as was evident in a recent Employee Engagement Survey in which 84% of staff and faculty participated.

Patterson is passionate about access to education and will remain active in post-secondary education in the years to come through advocacy, mentorship and international development projects.
