Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) included a recap of the 2019 CICan Conference in their May 13 edition of “Perspectives.”
Hosted by Niagara College, the conference was attended by over 900 participants. The recap notes, “the event was representative of the Niagara region’s longstanding history of freedom and inclusion, serving as a meeting place for Indigenous populations and a key northern terminus of the Underground Railroad.” The conference was a meeting place for discussion on critical issues in PSE including reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, welcoming international students to Canada, and celebrating diversity and ensuring accessibility in the educational environment.
The newsletter also recaps the pre-conference forum, opening reception, six conference streams, as well as awards and recognition to Paul and Gerri Charette for their $1 million donation towards a brand new bursary program for college students.
