On Feb. 27, Niagara College was host to the District School Board of Niagara’s (DSBN) annual Technological Skills Challenges, an event the college has hosted since 2015.
Over 300 students from 17 Niagara public secondary schools participated in over 20 challenges that tested their skills in everything from automotive technology, to computer coding and advanced manufacturing to hairstyling, floral design, baking and more. NC Career Services also offered a job interview skills challenge. Faculty and staff from Niagara College worked alongside the DSBN to help administer the challenges.

“These competitions are a way for students to take their potential careers for a test drive,” said Phil Hayes, associate director, Recruitment at NC. “By exploring a field they’re passionate about through this competition, they may also decide that it’s not what they want to do as a career. And that’s a good thing. It gives them the exposure outside the classroom and the chance to interact with educational and industry experts.”
