Welland Downtown BIA has rolled out a new Monopoly-inspired board game.

There’s no Boardwalk or Park Place, but if you roll the dice on a new board game in Welland, you may just land on Niagara College.

Banking on hometown pride to help support community initiatives, the Welland Downtown Business Improvement Area has unveiled Wellland-opoly.The new Monopoly-inspired game was launched in celebration of the Rose City’s160th birthday, with100% of the proceeds to support initiatives and projects in downtown Welland.

“Niagara College has been a sponsor for almost every large event in the City’s core, so it was an obvious partnership when we were developing the game board,” said  Amanda MacDonald, executive director of the Welland Downtown BIA.

Among several local hot spots and events featured on the board. NC now occupies the spot traditionally held by ‘Pacific Avenue’ on the original Monopoly board, and is featured within the game’s Seaway Mall Mystery Cards. The College’s corresponding card contains these details: “You are lost on the Niagara College Campus and do not know which direction to head to class. Roll the dice (Evens move forwards, odds move backwards.)

“Niagara College has been an integral part of the Welland community for over 50 years and we are proud to support the community and the Welland Downtown BIA by being a part of this exciting project,” said Dorita Pentesco, NC’s director of Marketing and Student Recruitment.
