Niagara College’s Business Administration – Supply Chain and Operations Management program has inked a new agreement with the Ontario Chapter of the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) that will see students in the program get a head start to getting their professional designation.

The Supply Chain Management Association of Canada is Canada’s largest association for supply chain management professionals, representing 7,500 members. The association sets the standards for excellence and ethics, and is the principal source of professional development and accreditation in supply chain management in Canada.

Graduates of the college’s three-year program who have obtained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive advanced standing in the Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) program. The designation is an internationally accredited certification of strategic supply chain leadership and is Canada’s most widely held designation in supply chain management. To grant advanced standing, SCMA assesses the curriculum for each program component.

Graduates of the College’s program will receive transfer credits for four of the eight SCMA certification module courses and transfer credits for three of the six certification workshops.

“I just read about the transfer agreement between the Niagara College Supply Chain and Operations Management program and the Supply Chain Management Association, and realize it’s importance towards my success in the future workplace,” said Bachelor of Business Administration – Supply Chain and Operations Management student Charlie Plante. “It is very clear to me that the professors in Niagara College’s School of Business and Management care greatly about the success of their students.”

This credit transfer agreement applies to students entered into level one of the Niagara College Supply Chain and Operations Management (SCM/OM) program. The 2018 SCM/OM program of study aligns with SCMA requirements as well as meeting all of the new program standards of Ontario’s Ministry of Colleges and Universities.

According to program coordinator Rob Shepherd, The supply chain management profession makes a significant contribution to Canada’s economy and provides a critical competitive advantage for all enterprises. Latest research reveals that SCMA members control more than $130 billion in annual spend.

“This is a value added program component that will benefit current and future students as the profession of supply chain management continues to grow and evolve,” said Shepherd. “SCMPs are recognized as strategic supply chain management professionals who help companies achieve a competitive edge. Employers are seeking skilled accredited professionals and SCMPs are seen as the pre-eminent authority in supply chain management. They are strategic leaders and decision-makers.”
