With the Cannabis Production program ready to launch this fall – the first of its kind in Canada – details about this and other innovative programs are included in a feature article (page 14), that are that are not only preparing our graduates for the jobs of today, but for the careers of tomorrow.

Read about how our college continues to grow as campus redevelopment plans unfold this year to introduce new facilities including a new teaching distillery, an agri-food research centre, and more state-of-the-art facilities poised to support student success (page 18). It also includes an article about NC’s continued leadership in research and innovation which is closely tied to the economic engine of Niagara through our work with industry partners, helping small- and medium-sized businesses innovate (page 12).

We are proud to highlight the achievements of our students, staff, faculty and administrators, as well as several exciting program initiatives demonstrating NC in the community. Our inaugural Pen Pal Project has connected our Recreation Therapy students and seniors in a local long-term care residence, while our dental students helped brighten smiles of local children at our dental clinics (page 11). The College is also making a difference around the world through our growing International division (page 20).

We take great pride in the accomplishments of our alumni and pleased to share the stories of Mark Montefiore who turned his passion for film into a successful career as producer of the popular TV series Letterkenny (page 24) and Rose DiMarco, chief superintendent of the Ontario Provincial Police Central Division, who has climbed the ranks in a career traditionally dominated by men (page 26).

This year’s issue shines the spotlight on staff and faculty including NC Broadcasting professor Peter VandenBerg (page 29), career consultant Monique Morin (page 30), and Community Services professor Jodi Steele (page 28).

We also highlight one of the College’s major donors, construction industry leader Paul Charette, who was a bursary recipient more than 50 years ago (page 31).

Our cover photo features familiar faces from the NC community representing how our College leads the way when it comes to preemptive programs and projects, including Commercial Beekeeping program coordinator Mylee Nordin, Commercial Cannabis Production program coordinator Bill MacDonald, and Mike Duncan, PhD, Precision Agriculture and Environmental Technologies industrial research chair; as well as NC students Amritpal Singh (Commercial Beekeeping), Melissa Drake (Greenhouse Technician) and Arden Metcalfe-Roach (student researcher).

The magazine is distributed to alumni, college stakeholders and the community.  Print copies are available at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake campus Info Centres.
