The NOTL Campus played host to a special visit from Senator Peter Harder on Feb. 23, who visited the College to learn more about NC’s Commercial Cannabis Production program. The program, launching in the fall of 2018, is Canada’s first postsecondary program in the production of commercial cannabis.
Senator Harder took in a tour of the existing NC Teaching Greenhouse, the CFWI Research and Innovation Centre, Benchmark Restaurant, as well as the Teaching Brewery, and came away impressed, praising the college for the pre-emptive and innovative approach to hands-on learning that led to the creation of the Commercial Cannabis Production program. He emphasized in a media address that Niagara College is, and will continue to be a leading force in Canada’s emerging cannabis industry, and is will be crucial in producing skilled, knowledgeable grads in response to a growing demand for specialized workers.
Twenty-four students will form the first cohort of students in the one-year program, starting in September 2018.
