January 2: Fire alarm activated at Welland Campus

On January 2 at 11:15 a.m., a fire alarm was activated at the Welland Campus.

Staff and students evacuated the main building and the fire department responded, as well as staff from the College’s Facilities Management Services and Campus Safety.

The alarm was triggered by sprinkler pipes that burst in the new gym academic lab (Gym C).

While staff and students have since been permitted to return indoors, the new gym academic lab (Gym C) and the area has been blocked off. Cleanup of the water is underway and action has been taken to repair the sprinkler system.

The area is expected to reopen on the morning of January 3. FMS will continue to monitor the area until repairs are complete.
