Message from Pam Skinner: Testing at the Welland Campus

I am writing to inform you of testing that will take place in certain areas of the Welland Campus over the months of April and May.

The testing is part of our efforts to update our asbestos inventory and management plan, and will be undertaken by Pinchin Ltd., one of Canada’s largest environmental, engineering and health and safety firms, and experts in asbestos containing materials.

It’s important to note that this testing poses no risk to the health and safety of our students and staff and will be carried out within all guidelines and requirements for the handling of asbestos-containing materials.

Like most buildings constructed prior to the 1990s, some of the older areas of the Welland Campus include areas where asbestos is present in some materials used for flooring and insulation.

Unless they are disturbed or handled improperly, these materials do not pose any health risk to our students and staff.

Please click here for a testing schedule, and to learn more about the testing that will take place.

Later this year, the College will also introduce asbestos awareness training, including group training for departments that work near asbestos containing materials as part of their duties.

If you have any questions regarding the testing, please contact Ralph Scholz, director, Facilities Management Services, at rscholz@niagaracollege.ca.
