BRTF grads reel in Canadian Screen Awards

Submitted by Linda Roote, associate dean, School of Media Studies:

Congratulations to our Broadcasting: Radio, Television and Film graduates who recently won 2017 Canadian Screen Awards:

Mark Montefiore – Best Comedy Series for Letterkenny;

Ryan Shaw – Best Photography in a Lifestyle or Reality/Competition Program or Series, for The Amazing Race Canada;

Jeremy Lalonde – Best Picture Editing in a Variety or Sketch Comedy Program, for Baroness Von Sketch Show; and

Dale Sheldrake – Best Sound in a Comedy or Dramatic Program Series, for Vikings.

To understand the level of accomplishment these awards represent, consider the following Wikipedia description of the CSA Awards: “The Canadian Screen Awards are awards given annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television recognizing excellence in Canadian film, English-language television, and digital media productions. The new awards were first presented in 2013 as the result of a merger of the Gemini Awards and Genie Awards—the Academy’s previous awards presentations for television and film productions. They are widely considered to be the most prestigious award for Canadian entertainers and filmmakers, often referred to as the equivalent of the Oscars and Emmy Awards in the United States, the BAFTA Awards in the United Kingdom, the AACTA Awards in Australia and the IFTA Awards in Ireland.”

The BRTF faculty are so proud of these accomplishments, as well as the successes of all graduates of the program.  Kudos to all faculty and staff who helped them in their academic careers.

Such success is a wonderful reminder that here at NC we really do help “enrich lives and fulfill dreams.”
