Please join your colleagues and me at this year’s Niagara Day on Wednesday August 31 at the Welland Campus. Niagara Day is always a great way for us to reconnect as a learning community. It also marks the beginning of the academic year, as we welcome a new group of students as well as those returning to complete their studies.

Niagara Day includes opportunities to generate awareness, recognize our colleagues who are receiving Service Awards, the Niagara Champions Award, and College Educator Development Program certificates. A highlight, of course, is the presentation of the prestigious Awards of Excellence, where we recognize the members of the Niagara College team who are truly the best of the best.

Another highlight is a group of recent graduates who will share their own NC stories with us, and discuss how it changed their lives and helped move them towards their dreams. I know that this discussion will be very valuable to us as a learning community, as we look to the exciting year ahead, renew our strong student focus and remind ourselves of the collective and individual roles that we all play in our students’ satisfaction and success.

A great line-up of live music is also planned. Doors open and refreshments will be available at 7:45 a.m. in the Welland gym. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by lunch, served by Benchmark in the Eva Lewis Learning Commons.

Parking passes will be available for pickup, and be sure to stop by the NC Toastmasters and Research and Innovation booths. Our Greenhouse will also be selling Basil the Cat key
chains to support the Basil Bursary, which will be presented to a student in 2017. Please bring a non-perishable food item or toiletries for the SAC food bank, and remember to wear your name tag.

Finally, I encourage you to help us reach our sustainability goals. Please bring your refillable beverage containers for coffee and water.

I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 31 at the Welland Campus.

Dan
