Niagara College to celebrate Spring Convocation Ceremonies June 21-24

 

Niagara College is preparing to celebrate its largest graduating class to date.

More than 4,570 students will graduate at the College’s Spring Convocation Ceremonies, to be held June 21-24 at the Welland Campus.

“Convocation is the highlight of our academic year and a celebration of our students’ success as they move on to the next phase of their lives, whether it’s a successful career or another step on their educational journey,” said Niagara College president Dan Patterson. “These are the highly-skilled graduates who will drive the future success of our key industries and sectors, and contribute to all corners of our society.”

Graduates and their guests will hear from a roster of distinguished business and community leaders who will deliver convocation addresses and receive special honours from the College.

 

Tuesday, June 21

  • 3 p.m.

School of Hospitality, Tourism and Sport; Canadian Food and Wine Institute

Speaker: David Penny, executive chef at Signature Retirement Living, who will receive a Distinguished Alumni Award;

 

Wednesday, June 22

  • 10 a.m.

School of Justice and Fitness Studies, and School of Environmental and Horticultural Studies

Speaker: Ontario Provincial Police superintendent Mike McDonell, who will receive an honorary diploma in Justice Studies;  

  • 3 p.m.

School of Business and Management Studies, and School of Academic and Liberal Studies

Speaker: Designer/ entrepreneur Shannon Passero, of Shannon Passero Design, (behind the fashion labels Pure Handknit and Neon Buddha, and Thorold-based retail flagship store and design studio The Post Office), who will receive an honorary Bachelor of Applied Studies;

 

Thursday, June 23

  • 10 a.m.

School of Allied Health Studies, and School Nursing and Personal Support Worker Studies

Speaker: Jane Rufrano, CEO and CFO of Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre, who will receive an honorary diploma in Health Studies;

  • 3 p.m.

School of Community Services

Speaker: Patrick Wedaseh Madahbee, Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation, who will receive an honorary diploma in Community Studies;

 

Friday, June 24

  • 10 a.m.

School of Media Studies, School of Technology Studies, and School of Trades

Speaker: Paul Charette, chair of the Board of Directors (and former CEO) at Bird Construction, who will receive an honorary diploma in Technology Studies.
