Niagara College Student Administrative Council president, Shane Malcolm, has a very busy year ahead of him.
The recently re-elected Malcolm has just been elected as a director for the College Student Alliance Board of Directors for the 2015-16 school year.
The CSA is an advocacy organization, which has been serving Ontario’s college students since 1975. The CSA currently represents approximately 110,000 full-time college students across the province. In the past the CSA has advocated for tuition freezes, limits on annual increases and have contributed to improvements in financial aid and OSAP in Ontario.
Malcolm, who was elected during the CSA May conference in Windsor this past weekend, was also the recipient of the CSA Leadership Award for the Southwest Region.
“Shane Malcolm was nominated by his peers because his actions have inspired change and growth within the Southwest Region as well as on his campus and in his community. He has shown leadership by hosting CSA October Conference, had engaged MPPs in conversation specifically for the removal of the student-owned vehicle asset exemption from OSAP’s needs assessment and he has encouraged other students to get involved,” said Veronica Barahone, communications manager for the CSA. “Shane is able to connect with students from any demographic and always makes others feel welcome. Shane is truly deserving of this award for his work and dedication over the past few years.”
“I’m honoured and excited to be a part of the CSA Board of Directors this coming year,” said Malcolm, president, NCSAC. “I look forward to bringing my regional student advocacy experience in Niagara and applying it provincially alongside a great group of student leaders.”
