Re-use sales to highlight waste reduction

To mark October’s sustainability theme of waste and paper reduction – and Canada’s national Waste Reduction Week, which takes place October 21-27 — the Niagara Environmental Corps is holding a pair of re-use sales later this month.

The sales take place October 28 at the Armoury in NOTL, and October 30 at The Core in Welland. Both sales take place from noon to 5 p.m. Acceptable items include: clothing, accessories, small household appliances, bags and belts, books, paintings, active wear, vintage collectables. shoes (paired), house wares, clocks, bedding, curtains, toys, seasonal decorations, DVDs, jewellery, china dishes, knick-knacks, sports equipment, outdoor equipment, Halloween costumes, furniture, mirrors, CDs, suits, ties, winter jackets, luggage, musical instruments, puzzles, games, crafts, pottery, vases etc.

Items can be brought to the re-use sale, or to set up an appointment to drop off the items earlier or volunteer for the re-use sales, please contact Gina Pannunzio at Proceeds generated through the sales will support NEC projects.

The NEC is a student driven organization established with a mandate to increase environmental awareness. The organization promotes student volunteerism and leadership through environmental projects and initiatives. The goal of the organization is to empower students to be pro-active in solving environmental issues and to become the leaders of the evolution towards the building of healthy and sustainable communities.

The re-use sale is intended to raise awareness of waste reduction, and support the Niagara College sustainability committee’s waste-diversion goal of 65 percent.
