Trauma Awareness Workshop – Aug 9 2023

NC Students are invited to participate in a virtual Trauma Awareness Workshop on August 9 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m., hosted by Consent is Key and HWAS.
Increase your trauma awareness with psychoeducation on understanding responses to trauma, as well as the effects, symptoms, and other impacts.

About Jamie Consoli
Born and raised in Northeastern Ontario, Jamie (she/her) is Mushkego Cree wife, mother, and mental health practitioner, as well as a member of Moose Cree First Nation. She is a Registered Psychotherapist and has worked at Niagara College as an Indigenous Counsellor since 2014. Though Jamie supports all NC students (including BIPOC, racialized, and 2LGBTQ+ students), her primary focus is on offering counselling services and programming for Indigenous students.
As a person who is of Indigenous and European ancestry, Jamie has a deep understanding of what it’s like to navigate intersectional identities. She is incredibly passionate about creating culturally safe spaces, exploring systemic impacts on wellness, and empowering students in their healing journey.

Sexual and Gender-Based Violence
Niagara College is committed to supporting those who have been impacted by sexual and gender-based violence. NC has a dedicated Sexual Violence Prevention & Response coordinator, Elysia Dardarian, who employs a trauma informed and survivor centered approach to supporting students impacted by this type of violence.
Students are encouraged to contact Elysia at [email protected] for support for the following:
- Making a formal complaint to the college regarding an incident of sexual or gender-based violence
- Assistance with reporting to the police
- Reviewing any accommodations that may be needed
- Creating a safety plan for physical and emotional safety concerns
- Referring students to services on or off-campus
- Learning more about sexual and gender-based violence and how to be a supportive friend
- Scheduling Elysia for an information session on sexual and gender-based violence to your class, club, or department

HWAS
We understand that being successful at college is not just about academics. You may experience any number of challenges that may affect your success at Niagara College; that is where we come in. We are a helpful location for support with physical and mental health, personal support and assistance with disability related needs.
There are three categories of services within Health, Wellness and Accessibility (HWAS), each with their own dedicated team members. Health Services features support from our Nurses and Doctors, Wellness Services pertain to support from our Counsellors, and Accessibility Services has a team of Accessibility Consultants, Learning Strategists and Adaptive Technologists; all here to help support you during your NC journey.
