November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month and Consent is Key wants to hear from YOU. We invite all students to enter our art contest, raising awareness of gender-based violence and its prevention on our campuses. All submissions must touch on a theme related to gender-based violence.

We will select 2 winners, each earning a $50 Amazon gift card. Winners’ work will be featured online and in future Consent is Key campaigns.

You may use any medium you choose, such as:

  • Visual art (a drawing, painting, photography, etc.)
  • Written art (poem, short story, essay, etc.) – no more than 1000 words.
  • Performing arts (dance, music, etc.) – videos no more than 2 minutes in length.
  • Social media graphics (no more than 5 graphics)

Submissions will be judged on the following elements:

  • How well the work relates to the theme
  • How creatively the work conveys an idea or emotion

All submissions are due by November 30 at 8 p.m. To enter, complete this online form.

Note: Work must be original and appropriate. You must be the creator of the art you submit to the competition, and not a copy of someone else’s copyrighted material. We reserve the right to refuse any submissions that are insensitive or inappropriate in nature that are inconsistent with our college values.

These topics may be emotional and challenging to think about. Our goal is to help shift perspectives on these topics, make positive changes in our community, and show our support for survivors. Please take care of yourself and if you need immediate support, reach out to one of the community crisis lines listed at www.niagaracollege.ca/consentiskey/resources.

Woman Abuse Prevention Month
The intention of this month is to raise awareness on the issues of gender-based violence that women and gender-diverse people experience. Gender-based violence takes many forms, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. In Canada, 1 in 2 women have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.
