November 26, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for an immersive experience in perspective-taking using Oculus Quest II VR headsets or via a PC version. Participants will engage in virtual simulations that allow them to interact with characters from diverse backgrounds and scenarios set on post-secondary campuses. These simulations focus on various barriers, including physical, architectural, and attitudinal challenges, and guide learners through choices on how to respond to ableism.

Developed and tested by Niagara College professors Theresa Anzovino and Jamie Oresar, Adaptive Technology Specialist Jim McEwen, and Dr. Maureen Connolly, Director of the Brock-Niagara Centre of Excellence in Inclusive and Adaptive Physical Activity (CAPA) at Brock University, these VR simulations offer participants a unique opportunity to gain insight into the experiences of people with disabilities.

The goal is to raise awareness of ableist interactions and equip learners with strategies to challenge and respond to ableism appropriately.
