Daniel J. Patterson

Dr. Daniel J. Patterson was Niagara College’s celebrated fifth president from 1995-2020.

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus was renamed to the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in recognition of Dr. Patterson’s accomplishments by the Niagara College Board of Governors on November 22, 2019.

Since the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake opened in 1998, it has been a living reflection of the innovation and tenacity that defined Dr. Patterson’s leadership of the college. From the introduction of unique learning enterprises, to the growth of applied research capabilities, to housing trailblazing programs, every step in the campus’s history can be traced back to Dr. Patterson’s vision.

Dr. Patterson was been honoured with two special accolades in recognition of his remarkable contributions to Niagara College and Canada’s postsecondary landscape during his distinguished career. He was named President Emeritus of Niagara College, a designation bestowed on him by Niagara College’s Board of Governors effective July 1, 2020. The honorary title recognizes his outstanding service to the College and local communities. Dr. Patterson was also recognized by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) as the 2020 recipient of its Distinguished Service Award, an honour given to him by his peers on CICan’s Presidents’ Leadership Network.

Dan Patterson Legacy Campaign

To honour his legacy as the fifth president of Niagara College, Niagara College launched a special fundraising campaign that supports student success. The Dan Patterson Legacy Fund supports three student-focused areas of need: needs-based bursaries; merit-based scholarships; and Be World Ready travel bursaries.
