This introductory course explores the history, structure, and function of social services in Canada. Students will examine current programs and policies from historical, sociological, and political perspectives, using an anti-oppressive lens. Topics include poverty, education, employment services, immigration, and the impact of colonization on Indigenous communities. Emphasis is placed on understanding service delivery at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels, and on developing foundational knowledge of social policy and social justice in social service work.
