This course is designed to provide students with an introductory overview of sociology in Canadian society. You will explore various topics studied by sociologists to understand our social world, including sociological theory, methods, culture, socialization, inequality, poverty, social deviance, crime and punishment, contemporary social movements and social change. The course will provide you with the tools to critically evaluate "common-sense" understandings of society, which are often rooted in myth and opinion rather than evidence. This course will engage and challenge your views on a wide range of issues that affect us all.
