These enhancements are needed to support shifts from institutionalized healthcare to community-based programs and services. Therapeutic recreation has a niche role within community services, becoming increasingly evident as community health, wellness, and private practice opportunities increase. This course provides students with the knowledge and strategies to empower and engage community members and volunteers in developing and sustaining meaningful partnerships that ensure accessible, inclusive recreation within the community. It will also support students with an introduction to self-employment and entrepreneurial development, exploring alternative employment opportunities in a variety of therapeutic recreation contexts.
