Description:

1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. Similarly, approximately 1 in 5 people will meet the criteria for addiction in their lifetime. Recovery from mental illness and addiction is a journey and is expected. This course aims to explore mental illness and addictions in Canada and discover how recovery can be supported through therapeutic recreation. Students will learn about the meaningful role of therapeutic recreation in mental illness and addiction recovery and explore additional topics of interest. Learning opportunities that support therapeutic recreation practitioners familiarity with and confidence in working with individuals living with mental illness and/or addictions will also be provided.
