This course is designed to introduce you and expand upon theories and strategies related to positive psychology and therapeutic recreation practice. Positive psychology is the scientific study of the strengths that enable individuals and communities to thrive. The field intertwines numerous sectors including education, healthcare, community services and private industries. This course will define and provide you with an overview of positive psychology and its pillars, explore relevant positive psychology theories that guide strengths-based TR practice, study character strengths and discuss their application to therapeutic recreation, identify theoretical frameworks for strengths-based therapeutic recreation practice and provide a review of evidence-based strategies for increasing well-being.
