In this course, you will obtain a basic understanding of occupational health and safety (OHS) issues, legislation and programs. You will explore the elements that combine to create an effective OHS management system. You will comprehend the historical context, stakeholders, HR function, OHS and workers' compensation legislative requirements. You will study and appreciate how to manage risks associated with workplace hazards, including physical, chemical, and biological agents, psychosocial hazards, and workplace violence. You will understand the significant ways in which HR managers become actively involved in OHS interventions, such as training, motivating safe working behaviours, safety climate, safety leadership, emergency planning, incident investigation, disability management, return to work, and workplace wellness.
