Description:

Students will explore and study both the legal and the ethical aspects of palliative and end-of-life care. This course will focus on the fundamental principles of ethical conduct and ethical decision making, and consider how these can potentially be affected by factors such as personal beliefs and values of the client, family and care provider. Patient rights and responsibilities, and cultural, generational and religious influences regarding such issues as care planning, informed consent, confidentiality, and truth-telling will be discussed. Ethical dilemmas that rise in the palliative care context will also be explored.
