This course presents the basic concepts of integrated pest management. You will be familiarized with the different groups of pests affecting vineyard production, including insects, acarids, nematodes, plant pathogens, vertebrate pests, weeds and abiotic stresses. The concepts of thresholds, pesticide activity, resistance management, disease cycles, environmental impacts, application technology, and organic production methods will be introduced. Management strategies for the complex pest problem in the vineyard will be reviewed, and you will learn to make informed pest management decisions. Lab topics will include examining preserved specimens to support identification, as well as soil and tissue analysis and assessment.
