Description:

In this course you will learn the basic principles of managing vineyard soils and developing irrigation strategies to help maximize grape quality at an appropriate yield. You will be introduced to basic principles of soil structure and chemistry, soil organic matter management, vine nutrition and vine water stress management. You will gain insight into how soil affects fruit quality and learn how soil and tissue mineral analyses, soil and plant water status monitoring equipment and other vineyard management tools are utilized. Actual field experience will be determined by the winter weather, but you will participate in at least one field laboratory where these techniques are practiced or demonstrated.
